27th to the 27th
With the success of this year’s Eastern Lights Motorcycle Cavalcade still fresh in their minds, the event’s organisers are now planning for another run in 2008.
They have just announced that next year’s Cavalcade will take place on Sunday 27 July 2008, following the Lowestoft Airshow, and they hope that it will again attract 1000 riders on motorcycles, scooters and trikes.
This year bikers raised a record sum and organisers of the event were delighted to present a cheque for £10610.98 to the James Paget Hospital Accident and Emergency (A and E) Unit. The money would fund the purchase of equipment for the A & E Unit including a portable ventilator and brings the total raised in the six years of this event to over £43,000.
With 1000 riders taking part this year, organising committee spokesman Paul Howard said “we were disappointed to have to turn away latecomers who would have exceeded our limit but greatly encouraged by the support received from motorcyclists riding in the cavalcade and by the generosity of the general public watching the bikes. He added “bikers look forward to taking part in this event and this year, in Lowestoft, there was the added attraction of Honda formula 4 series powerboats racing offshore”.
Next year’s cavalcade, will follow the usual route. Starting at Thickthorn Park & Ride in Norwich it will then travel along the A47 to Great Yarmouth before joining the A12 taking it to Royal Green on Lowestoft seafront - where the bikes will park for the afternoon.
Entry forms will be available for download from the website www.easternlights.co.nr in the New Year and from other outlets later in the Spring.

Wimbotsham - Fenman Classic Bike Show 29 August 2005
Wimbotsham is located 1 mile from Downham Market just off the A10. Every August Bank Holiday the village hosts the Annual Fenman Classic Bike Show, with all proceeds donated to charity. The village is taken over to the biking fraternity for the entire day in a friendly atmosphere of lazing on the ground to sounds of roaring motorbike engines from every era.
The Fenman Show is recommended by Real Classic Clubmen for its bike jumble, trade stands and motorcycles of all ages and origins. There is a secure area for helmets etc with a hog roast, live music and other refreshments.
The show entrants were grouped into large British, medium British, small British, foreign between 1960 to1980, post-war pre-war, former racing machines, owners' clubs and so on. The field adjacent to the school was the site of a large bike jumble and the stall-holders appeared quite happy with the turnout and the sales that they were making. |
